The seasons turn, year-on-year.
Festivals and celebrations, come and go.
And when the lights and sounds of Christmas and the New Year begin to fade, we look with hope and expectation to an exciting new year to come.
Maybe you will decide to make a New Year Resolution – go to the gym a little more often, get out and walk the dog a bit more, get back to learning to play the piano.
Along with all the other New Year Resolutions we might be making, at Portholme Church there is special resolution – called a Covenant – celebrated in January.
The Covenant Service is a celebration of the love that God has for all of us. An amazing love that, unlike the seasons and festivals, never changes, never fades, and never leaves us. A love that also challenges us to grow as people.
It is not a ‘contract’, but rather a resolution that – in the light of God’s enormous love for us – we respond to that love by deepening our relationship with Him, and (as our mission statement says) sharing the love of Jesus Christ with those in our community and beyond.
The Covenant Service is, principally, a Methodist service, however, it has its roots in the rich heritage of both the Methodist and URC traditions. Find out more about the Covenant Service here.
The Covenant Service at Portholme Church this year is on Sunday 7th January at 10:45am.
How will you respond?
